Camden’s proposed upgrade to our the Alexandra Road estates heating system

Camden propose to decommission our radiant wall heating system even though the residents, overwhelmingly object to their plans for installing radiators and HIUs into our homes. Camden put in for planning permission in January 2024, with no warning to the TRA and the wider estate. They had not taken onboard anything the Heating Subgroup proposed as credible or doable alternatives even though it gave permission for this group to have a series of workshops with a consultant from Max Fordham Ltd. Consequently the residents rallied and there have been approx. 1000 objections sent into Camden including letters of objections from 20C Society, Mark Swenarton, Docomomo and other prestigious architects and individuals, all of who, recognise the significance and importance of one of the most well known and important Grade II* listed social housing set of buildings in the country.

Camden are trying to say the works are NOT major but they most certainly are and will irrevocably change the exterior and interiors of the estate. The residents have had many letters published in the CNJ; sent a pack of objections to all 67 councilors in Camden; asked many many questions and we will of course send a deputation when we get notice of these planning applications being decided on by the Camden’s planning committee.
